The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has authorized a €90 million loan to ENGIE Romania, aimed at advancing the development of renewable energy projects across the country. This funding is expected to increase Romania’s green energy capacity by at least 250 megawatts (MW) by the year 2028.
The investment aligns with Romania’s strategic goal of transitioning to a more sustainable energy future. By bolstering the renewable energy sector, the project will contribute to reducing the country’s reliance on fossil fuels and help meet European Union climate targets.
ENGIE Romania plans to utilize the funds to initiate and expand various projects in solar and wind energy. This initiative not only supports the growth of clean energy infrastructure but also promises to create jobs and stimulate local economies in the regions where these projects will be implemented.
The EBRD’s financial backing reflects a broader commitment to supporting renewable energy initiatives in Eastern Europe, reinforcing the importance of sustainable development in the region. The loan serves as a pivotal step in enhancing Romania’s position in the renewable energy market, encouraging further investments in clean technology and energy solutions.
