Rezolv Energy has obtained financing of up to €331 million to advance the construction of the 269 megawatt (MW) second phase of its Vifor wind farm located in Romania. This funding will help bring the total capacity of the project in Buzău County to 461 MW.
The financing arrangement involves incremental project finance facilities specifically for Phase 2, which is largely backed by lenders from the initial phase. Key financial partners include Erste Group, UniCredit Group, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Intesa Sanpaolo Group, OTP Bank, and Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien.
Currently, Phase 1 of the Vifor project is under construction, which will add 192 MW through the installation of 30 turbines, each rated at 6.4 MW. These turbines are expected to be operational by spring 2026. The upcoming Phase 2 will introduce an additional 42 turbines, boosting the overall project capacity to 461 MW. This combined capacity is sufficient to power over 700,000 homes.
Once fully operational, the Vifor wind farm will rank as the largest wind farm developed in Romania in the past decade and will stand among the largest onshore wind farms in Europe. The banks providing the loans recognized Rezolv’s efforts toward sustainability, which extend beyond environmental impact. Vifor is also generating hundreds of local jobs and contributing to the economic development of Buzău County, while supporting community initiatives aimed at enhancing local welfare.
Alastair Hammond, CEO of Rezolv Energy, expressed satisfaction with securing this substantial funding from their established group of international lenders. He stated, „With Phase 1 scheduled for completion by spring 2026, this financing enables a smooth transition to Phase 2, allowing us to reach the project’s full capacity.”
Jaroslava Korpanec, partner at Actis and head of Central and Eastern Europe, noted the substantial progress on both phases of the Vifor project, emphasizing that Phase 2 will significantly scale up the project, reinforcing its status as a major contributor to renewable energy in Europe.
Rezolv Energy, founded in 2022 by Actis, a sustainable infrastructure investor, boasts a portfolio of 2.3 gigawatts (GW) across various large-scale wind and solar projects in Europe. In addition to Vifor, other projects in their pipeline include the Dama Solar plant in western Romania, which, at 1044 MW, will become the largest solar plant in Europe upon completion. Rezolv also has the 600 MW Dunarea East and West wind farms in Romania’s Constanța County, as well as the St George solar project, currently under construction, with a capacity of 225 MW in northeastern Bulgaria.
