ISLAMABAD – Romania is poised to assist Pakistan in its transition to green energy, as highlighted in a recent meeting between Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Romanian Ambassador Dan Stoenescu in Islamabad. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including trade, logistics, defense, and energy.
Ambassador Stoenescu proposed utilizing Romania’s Constanta Port to create a direct trade route for Pakistani exports to Europe through the Black Sea and Danube River. This initiative aims to diversify Pakistan’s export logistics, which is critical for boosting the economy.
During their discussions, both parties explored avenues to strengthen agricultural trade, particularly in meat exports, and identified opportunities for collaboration in pharmaceuticals, surgical goods, and notably, renewable energy. Romania expressed its readiness to provide technology and expertise in solar and wind power, crucial for supporting Pakistan’s green energy goals.
The Romanian government acknowledged Pakistan’s competitive position in several industries and expressed interest in fostering industrial partnerships. Minister Khan updated the ambassador on the Pakistani government’s efforts to lower tariff and non-tariff barriers, making it more attractive for Romanian companies to invest in Pakistan through joint ventures.
Ambassador Stoenescu praised the rapid growth of Pakistan’s IT sector and recognized the talent of Pakistani professionals. He offered to facilitate exchanges that could open up significant opportunities for Pakistani tech experts in Romania.
Minister Khan emphasized the government’s initiatives aimed at promoting the IT sector, noting that Pakistani professionals are increasingly competitive in the region and capable of delivering high-quality services globally.
Both sides agreed to bolster cooperation in technology and cultural diplomacy, with a focus on improving connectivity and visa processes. The meeting concluded with a commitment to ongoing engagement, including trade exhibitions to further strengthen bilateral relations.
