The Scottish Government has approved SSE Renewables’ plan to construct the Berwick Bank offshore wind farm, which will have a total capacity of 4.1 gigawatts (GW). This project is set to become one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world, significantly boosting Scotland’s renewable energy production.
The Berwick Bank wind farm will consist of approximately 200 turbines and is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 3 million homes once operational. This substantial output will contribute to the UK’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and support Scotland’s own climate targets.
Construction of the wind farm is projected to create thousands of jobs during the development and operational phases. SSE Renewables estimates that it will generate up to 2,000 jobs at the peak of construction.
